Studio History

In Portland, Oregon, nestled between the Willamette River and bigfoot’s backyard in a small (and pleasantly un-musty) attic, founders Dylan Nelson and Brian Acevedo started Incubate. Since then, the studio has followed this guiding principle—create honest, genuine work. Nelson, an Oregon native, and Acevedo, a California dreamer, found common ground after attending Oregon State University and Cranbrook Academy of Art. Before starting their own studio, both chartered the Nike Retail Media Network, where they art directed and produced retail video content. The co-partners were also responsible for helping to develop national brand campaigns while working at Wieden+Kennedy. Today, in an office that so totally beats working in an attic, Incubate develops work for local and national clients. Recently, the studio has designed and developed pieces ranging from the on-air brand kit for Oregon Public Broadcasting to brand advertising for Nau, from Recesstime Sports Leagues to EA’s Godfather II game intro.

Brian Acevedo, Co-Founder

Prior to Incubate, Brian designed print, broadcast and interactive for the likes of the Nike, Ford Motor Company, Trek, Waste Management and Harvard Business School’s Executive Program. Additionally, further observation has revealed Brian’s fondness for teaching. He teaches the senior level design course and mentors in the MFA program at PNCA in Portland, OR and has taught a workshop at Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland. Outside of Incubate, Brian participates in gallery shows including recent displays of his work in The Remedi Project-Issue#10, Output 04 and various publications.
